12 year old threatened for staging protest
A schoolboy trying to save his youth club was hauled from class after his plan to protest outside David Cameron’s constituency office was spotted - by anti-terror police.
In an astonishing over-reaction, 12-year-old Nicky Wishart was warned he faced arrest.
“I couldn’t believe it,” he said. “The policeman asked me lots of questions about why we were having a protest and who would be there.
“I said it was simply because we didn’t want our youth centre to close - it’s a fantastic place to go and there isn’t much else for us to do round here.”
The full-scale security operation swung into effect days after Nicky made an innocent request on Facebook to “save our youth centre”.
The surprised boy was told police were now monitoring his Facebook posts - which are mainly gossip and banter from school about lessons and friends’ haircuts.
He was told he would be responsible for any “trouble” at the well-mannered picket on Friday night.
Public-spirited Nicky, one of the PM’s constituents in the Oxfordshire seat of Witney, said: “All this is because Mr Cameron is our local MP and it’s a bit embarrassing for him.”
He said the police arrived during an English lesson on Tuesday afternoon.
“I was taken out of class - and the policeman said, ‘Are you aware that the anti-terrorist squad are looking at your Facebook account?’ He said that if anything got out of hand, they would arrest people.
The kid doesn’t want the cuts Cameron is suggesting because they’ll close his youth center. What part about that is so objectionable that the police think harassing him is a productive use of their time?
Perfect room.

International Human Rights Day: Human Rights Risk Atlas 2011 (PHOTOS)
Released to coincide with International Human Rights Day on Dec. 10, the Human Rights Risk Atlas 2011 evaluated 196 countries on their performance across 30 different categories, which included human security, labor standards, as well as civil and political freedoms. Prepared by the British global advisory firm Maplecroft, the new report shows there are now 92 nations listed as being in the “extreme” and “high risk” categories, up from 83 countries last year.
The Democratic Republic of Congo was ranked as the world’s riskiest nation, with China falling two spots from last year to come in at #10. On the opposite end of the scale, the U.S. was ranked as having a “medium risk” at #131, while both the United Kingdom (#154) and Germany (#181) are considered to have “low risk.”

Petition to include the LGBTQ category in Tumblr’s directory recommendations
Tumblr is a great place for LGBTQ people, but until recently, we’ve been denied a feature.
Many LGBTQ blogs want to be included in Tumblr’s LGBTQ directory. They email Tumblr asking to be included (since this is the only way), and they don’t get responses. Equalitopia waited months, and after many emails, it was finally added.
You may not want to be in the directory, but others do. All blogs should have a fair chance.
Tumblr’s lead developer says:
“I didn’t want immature people to nominate their non-LGBTQ friends/enemies into it. Didn’t want to cheapen/ruin the category.”
He’s implying that “gay” is an insult, and used as an attack on an enemy.
Tumblr Support says:
“Because of the social implications of this directory, we believe it would be tremendously irresponsible for us to risk a user intentionally or accidently outing another user.”
Reblog if you want LGBTQ blogs to be included in this feature.
Equalitopia will send this post to Tumblr staff once it gets enough reblogs.
It has been seven months since this post was originally made, and Tumblr has done absolutely nothing to address our concerns.
i’ve asked like 10,000 times to be added and they NEVER responded. i can understand being rejected; that’s totally fine by me. but at least have the decency to respond.
I seriously doubt an immature/mean spirited joke would get enough recommendations to push a non LGBTQ blog into the user-recommended category.
Want fuckyeahaces (and every other blog that should be there) in the LGBTQ category? Reblog this.

NASA’s Arsenic-Loving Bacteria Don’t Love Arsenic After All, Critics Say
At first, the controversy over NASA’s arsenic-loving bugs centered on whether the space agency had found aliens. A week later, the debate has ping-ponged the other way, with scientists questioning whether the bacteria even love arsenic at all.
Over the weekend, a handful of respected microbiologists cried foul over NASA’s newly published study about a bacterium that apparently swapped arsenic for phosphorus in its molecular building blocks. If the scientists are right, the finding changes how we think about life, and suggests it might exist in weird forms elsewhere in the universe. The problem is, they’re wrong, according to several critics.

zapatero: Hacktivists have displayed little understanding of marketing and damaged the reputation of Wikileaks.
The recent cyber-attacks by Hacktivist are very bad reputation to the cause of Freedom of Speech. Don’t get me wrong - I already burned my Amazon and Paypal accounts and wrote long mails to these companies. I’m 110% pro Wikileaks.
But the Hacktivists are damaging reputation of wikileaks,…
